Why don't we have the equivalent of Super Bowl of advertising for other major sporting events? Even when they have bigger viewing numbers?!📺Did you know that the Champions League Final normally pulls a global TV audience of over 390 MILLION people?📺Did you know that the Euro 2020 Final (played in 2021,) pulled in global TV audience of 328 MILLION?📺Last one, how many people do you think watched the Super Bowl in 2023?115 MILLION. Globally. It was a record number of viewers, especially internationally with fantastic growth on the previous year. I am sure the upcoming Super Bowl LVIII will do even bigger viewing numbers. Let's be honest though, even if they DOUBLE viewers in a year (which they won't,) the number of people watching will be less than the Champions League and European Championships. That's without even getting into World Cups, Olympics, and the Tour De France. All of which are global TV events. My question is this, if viewing figures are higher for other sporting events, why does the Super Bowl have this mythical place in the hearts of brands when it comes to advertising? Why to the Ad Agencies of Madison Avenue and Soho clammer to be part of creating Super Bowl adverts?🏈 27% of Americans polled after last year's Super Bowl, reported enjoying the adverts they watched during the Super Bowl, more than the game itself?! Crazy. This year Super Bowl adverts seem to have taken on a whole new angle. This year we are now seeing the growth of the 'pre-Super Bowl' advert. The 'Super Bowl teaser' if you will? The below teaser from Uber eats has blown up across socials overnight, hundreds of thousands of views across platforms. My feed is dripping with people saying how good the advert is.But, seriously why does the Super-Bowl have this pulling power? Why do UK Brands now fight to be part of the adverts for the FA Cup Final? The Champions League Final? What about the first time in over 30 years, Heavyweight boxing match which is coming up in the next two week?I've love to know your thoughts on this. One thing I do know is, the build-up is still the best part of most big sporting events, as 10 days out, I can't wait for Super Bowl LVIII already. I just hope I make the half time adverts this year..................https://lnkd.in/dYkTgdXP

It’s been a crazy summer with lots of swings and roundabouts. An unexpected one was going through a pitch process to appoint a new PR agency to work on big bang consumer campaigns (more news on this soon!).As one chapter ends and another begins, I have a hot minute to reflect and personally take stock of what Talker Tailor Trouble Maker delivered as our creative PR agency over the years, and what a loss their closure was to the industry. The campaigns we collaborated on were some of my career's most rewarding, eyebrow-raising and smile-inducing campaigns. They tickled hearts, minds and bottom lines…There was never a shortage of talent coming out of the agency, and we were lucky enough to work with a big portion of it. I am so proud of the work we created. When stakeholders, customers or candidates recall some of these campaigns to me, it is a testament to how powerful PR can be and how it has been integral to creating and sharing Deliveroo's mission, brand personality and identity over the years. Thank you to the TTTM team who worked on the Deliveroo account, and for the steadfast dedication and sweat that poured into making crazy but culturally relevant ideas a reality.Talker Tailor may have closed its doors, but the work - for Deliveroo and so many other brands - lives on. As do the memories of making it all happen. From taking on the role of a photographer because the one we hired needed to do his tax return on set (!), spending hours doing PR maths figuring out how to logistically pick up excess food from individual households around the country at different time slots, to using chips (and our bodies) to attract seagulls on Brighton beach to get the perfect shot... IYKYKIt was madness, but it was marvellous. Closing one chapter with sadness but opening a new one with excitement for what's to come. The devil works hard, but PRs work harder…👏 👏 👏 Gary Wheeldon-Doyle (he/him) Steve Strickland (he/him) Alex Pearse Andrea Tola Ilaka Lucy Piper Olivia Mushigo Michael Rossiter Alex Hamilton Chris Maho Evelina Peterson Noah Barnett Joshua SimonArabella Jenkins Hannah Catherine Tucker Elisabeth Gregor Natasha Graydon Ben Bailey

OK, yes, of course I was intrigued by all the Taylor Swift - Travis Kelce news during the Kansas City Chiefs v Chicago Bears football game on 9/24. But I was equally bemused by these absurd commercials from DoorDash featuring Brendan Hunt of Ted Lasso fame, one of which I saw during my New Orleans Saints game (yes, we lost, blah, blah blah...) The ads were created by Suprette, DoorDash's in-house ad agency, and they feature Hunt suggesting that it's time to order some food during a moment when you won't miss any football. A kind of stream of consciousness listing of food suggestions listed outloud, or sung to a roughly tuned guitar. Hunt is a tiny superimposed figure sitting atop the big, white words above DoorDash logo on a bright red background. A QR code allows viewers to capture it on their phone and head straight to DoorDash. It's weird but seems effective. The ads are silly and nonsensical, for sure, but I think quite clever. Why? Because they make the viewer stop what they are doing (me, puttering around during a time out commercial) and try and figure out wtf is actually going on in this ad and what this little man is saying. Then when you figure it out, you can go right to DoorDash and order. What do you think? Is stupid and absurd a good branding and sales strategy? #advertising #DoorDash #socialmedia #NFL #foodapps #TaylorSwift #TravisKelce #TedLasso #BrendanHunt #fooddelivery #commercialbreak

A very creative DoorDash PR campaign themed around masturbation & self love (have your attention?) took top prize at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for best PR campaign. I love this campaign for many reasons...-The product sold out wherever the ads ran. ROI anyone?-It opened minds about what DoorDash can do. Who knew?-It personalized DoorDash beyond a utility.-#femaleempowerment and #love of course.WDYT, ladies? Or gents? No judgement here.#socialmedia #pr #branding

The Super Bowl teaser that everyone is talking aboutIt is not often that a Super Bowl teaser gets talked about in the UKBut this spot by Uber Eats is genius and here's why⭐ A strong cultural insightIt's well known that most of us Brits get a little confused by American sport, especially one claiming to be football. I should know. I went to the 2010 Super Bowl as a guest of Gatorade and it was the first ever game of American football I had ever watched*⭐ A parody of a parodyWho hasn't seen the brilliant meme where David says 'be honest' to Victoria. It's even been used to explain the difference between brand marketing and sales. Like all the best meme's it's very adaptable as Uber have demonstrated here.⭐ Celebrity PowerThe Beckham's fame has had another boost thanks to the recent Netflix series so they are very much top of mind and they show here they are in on the joke about them which makes them all the more relatable too.⭐ Branding works tooThe risk with any celebrity ad is that is becomes all about the celebrity (especially Super Bowl) Uber cleverly insert the box into the scene and by using celebrities not known for Super Bowl Ads this stands out amongst the usual suspect (erm Snoop & Serena anyone)This is the funniest teaser I have seen in a long timeOne small twist though🤔 The joke is lost on someWhilst most people are spitting their coffee out Jessica Aniston style not everyone is finding the joke so funny. We tested this over-night using the System1 Test Your Ad platform and a small percentage of the population have contempt for the 'dumb' idea (It's just not cricket old chap) or weren't fans of the Beckhams which is always the challenge with a celebrity partnership that isn't Ant & Dec.Now this has got us all in the mood for the dissection of Super Bowl Ad's I bring good news that System1 will be bringing you the results of every 2024 Super Bowl ad with all the big insights from the match winnersYou can sign up herehttps://lnkd.in/gz5H3SQV* big thanks to my friend and American Football aficionado Arif Haq for talking me through the game (the cheese team were great!)Andrew Tindall Will Poskett Kerry Collinge Nick Williamson Jess M.
