  3. #7 Best Colleges in TexasTexas Tech UniversityLubbock, TX·4 Year·Rating 3.89 out of 5 5,457 reviewsSophom*ore: I am the first to go to a university on both sides of my hispanic family. I honestly did not know what to expect at first I had mixed feelings since I knew no one at Tech. During welcome week I grew familiar of the campus, fond of the people, and a sense of belonging and school pride. I loved my first year! I was able to study in multiple areas on campus, attend supplemental instruction and gain more practice and reaffirm me knowledge of the material in class. I found out the best way I retain material and what study habits worked best for me. Overall, I have only a few things I would change. I had a roomate issue which escalated and it was reported multiple times, but housing took a while to resolve the issue. Another thing I would like to see is a reinforcement in quiet hours in the dorm because at 2-4 in the morning the dorms were unusally loud on weekends and weekdays.... If I were to write this review solely based on my own experiences, I would say the only issue I had was with very few professors. Miscommunications and lack of understanding led to mistreatment towards my grade, but these were very limited instances, with very few professors. Other than those incidents, I had the best time making friends, and finding people who I could relate to as well as people who could help broaden my perspectives. I also had a lot of fun with the active clubs. I find the campus setting quite fun and find myself spending a lot of time in the recreation center. I found a lot of solace in my academic stress in the library as well. My academic experiences were pretty solid, other than the issues I mentioned previously. 6. #10 Best Colleges in TexasBaylor UniversityWaco, TX·4 Year·Rating 3.81 out of 5 4,562 reviewsSophom*ore: I lived at Brooks RC and it was super fun! If you're looking for an involved community I highly recommend living there. It is a two-year contract, but definitely worth it. Overall professors are nice and they enjoy what they are teaching. There are also so many clubs and events throughout the year so you're never bored. The best dining hall is 100% East Village. Penland is good depending on what you get, but sometimes meat is undercooked and there was an issue at the beginning of the year where people got food poisoning from it. Brooks has the best staff, and Memo has a couple of good stations but mostly is pretty mid. Baylor is so generous with Scholarships and Financial Aid for the regular school year, but just know if you're taking Summer classes, there are only loan options unless you're graduating early. Then there is an option to apply your academic scholarship to the Summer tuition as long as you're in good standing.... I am in the nursing program there and overall it has been such an amazing experience so far. I did most of my prerequisites there and they went well. Like any course, what you put in is what you will get out, and I feel that at UIW, by doing this, you can do well. The professors vary, but most of the ones I have had are outstanding! They care about their students and want to help each student do the best they can. Now being in a specific program, I can say that even though the work load changes, most of the professors stay focused on UIW's mission to help students and be supportive and inspiring throughout your time there. I lived in the dorms for my first two years there and the experience was great for the most part. There are somethings that could be worked on such as issues with parking and the cost of living, but overall I had a great experience on campus as it gave me life long friends.... 11. #20 Best Colleges in TexasLeTourneau UniversityLongview, TX·4 Year·Rating 3.73 out of 5 710 reviewsSophom*ore: I have been loving LeTourneau University! I was really hesitant when coming here because of how different it would be from home, but I was instantly welcomed by the peer advisors, RAs, RDs, and my SLA. The academics have been challenging as you would expect from a predominately STEM school, but there are so many resources that are available, and the professors have very broad office hours and are willing to help. The student life is fantastic and there are events every Friday so that students can become plugged in. However, one that I wish would change for the better is the residence and food situation. For the amount we have to pay, the food and housing situations are relatively poor. There are problems with mold, card readers breaking, and bats in the halls, and there are problems with uncooked and flavorless food. Overall, I really enjoy the Christian atmosphere LeTourneau offers and I would have never wished to attend somewhere else.... Professors do their absolute best to make sure all students succeed and I'm not just saying that. I have amazing relationships with almost all professors I've had because they truly care about how you do, not just in school, but in life. The student life is minimal but growing (at the Houston campus) but they still do an amazing job and creating and hosting events for all students to feel welcome and included. They are also amazing at integrating all programs so that no matter what you may be majoring in, you can still get to know one another while eating some food from around the world. I have enjoyed my time here at this school, and although the program I am enrolled in is the toughest thing I've ever had to do (nursing), this school makes it possible and worth it!... Academically, SFA excels with well-structured courses and approachable, knowledgeable faculty who offer valuable guidance and support. The wide array of clubs, fraternities, and sororities creates countless opportunities to build lasting friendships and a sense of community. UTSA has so many programs and is so inclusive that it is not hard to find your people. The people that you grow with, the people that you build core memories with, and the people that set you on the right path. Based on my experience, the more active you are with campus organizations the better your experience will be. I love the UTSA community, however, if I could change anything it would be the student residential living. More specifically parking, and this is due to the disproportionate ratio of students to parking spots.
